The Pillow
As humans who are not capable of perfection, falling is emanate. I use the expression "Lord knows I try" a lot it seems because I know this to be true. At times, He knows I could try better and with more purpose and diligence, but He knows that in most all things I do, I try to include Him as being the guide.
Isa 57:18 "I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him,"
I know this to be true for it happened one day in my distress and anguish that I called out to the Lord "When will this pain end?" It was not until years later that I saw this verse and just sat with my jaw wide open.
Psa 119:82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise; I say, "When will you comfort me?"
Oh I can not describe in words the power that came over me... The COMFORT. Being the human that I am, that comfort only lasted for a little while as I began to once again go in my own direction. Thus in doing so causing more turmoil and complications in my life. What's ironic is that in going in my own direction, that direction would lead to a fall! So when I choose my own direction, it is like I choose to fall. Well, God is a God who does not fail in His promise. When He responded with "the pain and suffering stops now," He meant it. How is this possible when I keep causing my own demise?
Job 2:11 "When Job's three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him."
God sent a comforter, aka a pillow to soften the fall. Thus although we may fall, it does not hurt so bad when we fall onto a 'Pillow' or into the arms of a comforter. At this time I even questioned myself about calling a 'friend' a comforter as opposed to calling Jesus 'The Comforter.' But then I am reminded that Jesus sends us friends to act as a comforter IN HIM and IN HIS LOVE.
2Cr 1:4 "who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."
God sends His children who can share in the knowledge, not just of Him and in Him, but of this world who can relate and share so that when we do fall, the fall is softened because we can see with our own eyes that it is possible to go on living in Him and through Him even when we stumble. What a blessing it is when I am given His Love through others so that I may also do the same.
Perhaps calling them Pillows may be simplifying their purpose here on Earth, but for me, what greater purpose could there be other than to fulfill the Covenant of Jesus... Love God, Love your neighbor and not just by saying the words, but by living it!
